Project analysis of a teahouse

project analysis of a teahouse

Background information:
Located in Lin Le Road, Guangzhou , Ruifeng teahouse is a traditional Chinese teahouse. Opened in 2005, the first redecoration was completed in October 2011. It shows China's abundant tea culture and offers tea drinking,dining , and tea selling service as a whole. The diverse business culture is also reflected in the interior design.

The owner is not satisfied with the existing lighting design. Fitech was invited by the customer to the location to make a study. Three main problems in the design of the teahouse are found:
1, The elements to be presented in the interior design are too many and too heavy. The decoration does not support the exquisite characteristics of the Tea Culture;
2, The teahouse basically relied on artificial lighting, lighting design is quite plain, and did not bring out the atmosphere of the tea culture;
3,The power consumption is high , the owner wants to create a better tea culture ambience by the readjustment of lighting design, but without changing the original furnishing and even the lighting positions. The lamp holes can not be altered. He wanted to complete the renovation at the lowest cost.

change from the chip

Change from the chip
Without replacing the original fixture, the LEDing the life R&D engineered a 7W focusable LED module from the Lycra which is the focusable spot light to replace the 50W halogen lamp.

50w halogen lamp vs 7w LED focus spotlight

50w halogen lamp VS 7 W LED focusable/zoomable Lycra light module
As compared in the picture, the 50W halogen lamp performs worse than Lycra and cannot reveal the real characteristics and texture of the tea table. The 7W LED focusable spotlight is superior in color rendering and light penetration.

We have the restriction of not changing any of the interior decoration, and not destroying the original space aesthetics. Fitech will magnify the effect of the product by selecting the proper item. Fitech will overcome the original design deficiencies by considering the Lux, size of the beam angle and the direction of projecting the light and increase the contrast of bright and dark. Also the ambience quality will be improved by the rich layering of the light.
This room area is about 6 square meters, and the long tea table and crafts showcase take up half of the space. The wall lamps, the hanging pictures and furnishings are too big for the space, so it seems quite crowded.

The long table just provided a distance of no more than 50cm between people sitting opposite to each other. For business communication, the distance is too narrow.
And the original lighting design enlarged the defects: above tea table two 50W 120° beam angle downlights were installed, no focus lighting was used, and a lot of heat was produced by the previous lights.

The key lighting of soft outfit (furniture) is two 35W halogen spotlights, and the intensity of illumination and the energy consumption is too high.
The background light was provided by two lamp 2W downlights, and there was insufficient illumination
Taking all cases into consideration, LEDing the life team replaced all the lighting source. We use 7W zoomable LED light—Lycra to replace the original 50W halogen spot light. We adjusted the beam angle of Lycra to the smallest (about 12°), and focused the beam on the tea table. The intensity of illumination reaches at least 300 Lux, higher than the original one.

The focused beam attracts the view of people towards the tea table and reduces attention to the surrounding environment. The peripheral light is just enough to identify the faces and ease the oppressive feeling of sitting closely opposite the other people.
The backlight uses 5W downlight with 120° beam angle. The beam diffuses into ambient light.
Its illumination is about 70 Lux, makes a dark and bright contrast to the highlighted tea table and builds a quiet ambience.
The pictures and furnishings are lighted by 3W focusable LED spotlights instead of 35W spotlights.
Now we begin to emphasize ambience, set the lighting from people's emotional and psychological needs, and pursue the spiritual artistic conception. The transformation of the teahouse is creating a kind of tea appreciating ambience.

Benefit and renovation cost
Regarding energy saving, the energy consumption dropped from the original 174 W to 23 W for just the single room. The other big room was using a 80 W or 100 W quartz lamp, so much more energy is saved there.
It is estimated that after the renovation of the entire teahouse, up to 60% energy is saved, so in less than a half year the cost of renovation can be recovered .
But along with the upgrading with LED technology, energy saving efficiency is getting higher and the cost is getting lower. The lighting renovation benefit is very clear.
Customers are very satisfied with the effect of the lighting renovation. The energy-saving benefit, the enhancement of the environment, and the cost control all give a very positive impact on the business as expected.
